Interactive Story Telling and Puppet Show along with an Adult presentation as part of ‘The Night Garden at Montebello’

David Krut Projects Cape Town with Sharon Geffen

Thursday 30th March 2017, 18:00

David Krut Projects Cape Town (DKCT) had the pleasure of hosting a children’s interactive storytelling and puppet show followed by an adult presentation by Sharon Geffen as part of ‘The Night Garden at Montebello’.

Geffen, a primary school librarian of 19 years, presented a series of interactive stories that allowed for the children to participate as different characters, whilst including elements of movement and music.

After the storytelling, Geffen presented an adult talk focusing on the importance of reading to young children. She believes that recent technological advancements are stunting the cognitive development of small children and that using electronic devices at a young age has the ability to disconnect certain neural pathways. As Geffen states:-  “Children’s brains are like sponges but if they are constantly overstimulated they are no longer able to use their critical thinking skills”.

DKCT is an educational project space and it is through events and collaborations with educators such as Geffen that we are able to bring awareness to early childhood development along with the growth of literacy amongst children.
