David Krut Projects (DKP) is dedicated to the encouragement of careers in the arts, the communication of knowledge, and the development of skills on both a formal and informal level.
The DKP Internship Programme aims to offer opportunities for tertiary students and graduates to gain experience in the professional arena of books and visual arts and a chance to connect with the wider South African arts community. The programme is open to both local and international applicants and assists students and graduates in understanding the nature and practicalities of a career in the arts, and to foster the building of professional relationships.
David Krut Projects in Cape Town is seeking responsible and highly motivated interns to assist with the daily running of the project spaces in Newlands and the City Bowl. The internship can be either full-time or part-time (minimum 3 days a week) for at least a 3-month period. Internships are unpaid for the first three months, with the possibility of discussion around employment after this period, should such be suitable for both DKP and the intern. A stipend of R100 per day will be available as contribution to travel costs and so on.
-Front of house duties: greeting guests, answering the phones, checking voicemail and responding to enquiries about artworks, books and past, present and upcoming projects
-Commitment to developing a good understanding of the different aspects of the organization, a basic knowledge of printmaking and an in-depth knowledge of the artists and creatives with whom DKP associates.
-Ensuring that the gallery is presentable and tidy at all times
-Opening and closing the gallery when necessary
-Assisting with press enquiries and updating online presence
-Packaging and delivering of artwork
-Assisting with the installation of exhibitions
-Being present for events at either of the locations
-Maintaining databases, stock inventories and price lists
-Research for exhibitions, events and projects
Skills and competencies required:
-Basic administration skills
-Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
-Computer skills (Word, Excel essential. Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are an advantage)
-A team player with an enthusiastic and proactive attitude, both flexible and reliable
-A literature, art and/or design education is preferable
